Nokia reveals N1 Android tablet

This is probably unexpected for everyone, but Nokia has decided to use its name to manufacture N1 Android tablet. Due to agreement with Microsoft they are prohibited to produce mobile phones with Nokia brand, this, in some way, is a logical decision to  preserve brand and gain profit.  N1 will use Z launcher made by Nokia, which was released few months ago, and Android 5.0 a.k.a “Lollipop”.  It will be manufactured by Chinese company ODM. N1 resembles iPad Mini with its design and on first look you would have a hard time to differentiate it from the actual Mini unless you had it personally. For as far as we know, the phone is going to see its release in Asia first and then in Europe, with retail price of $249 at launch.

The company CEO recently said Nokia won’t return to making smartphones, even if the contract with Microsoft allows Nokia to sell smartphones from 2016. Instead, Nokia is looking to license its brand to interested companies, that will be able to sell devices under the Nokia name.

Could Nokia one day return to its glory? It’s hard to say, but given good amount of time and resources, anything is possible. Some parts of former Nokia mobile division have formed their own companies and one of them is most known for  Jolla. If those were to return to Nokia one day, it could once again become serious player but only if the chance arises. Pursuing it for a time being would be a waste of resources.

PS: Seems that Jolla is announcing something to in about 8hrs from now. Maybe a tablet?
